The following Warwick job has been amended:

Research Fellow

Warwick HRI

£27,319 - £35,646 per annum

Fixed term contract for 3 years

Funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), this project
addresses microbial cycling of the organosulfur compounds
dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) and dimethylsulfide (DMS) in a coastal
saltmarsh. It will investigate the phylogenetic and functional diversity of
DMSP and DMS-degrading microbial populations in different redox zones of salt
marsh sediments using microbial ecology techniques.

You will join a project team which already includes expertise in microbial
ecology, salt marsh ecology, molecular microbiology, statistics, and
environmental chemistry, from groups from the University of Warwick (Schäfer,
Murrell, Mead), the University of East Anglia (Johnston, Todd, Davy), and the
University of Hamburg, Germany (Wieland).

For this role you should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and expertise in
environmental microbiology techniques including characterisation of microbial
communities using ribosomal and functional molecular markers, genetic
fingerprinting techniques (DGGE, TRFLP), and stable isotope probing. This
project will utilise high-throughput, high-resolution approaches to characterise
the composition (phylogenetic and functional diversity) and transcriptional
activities of salt marsh microbial communities; pertinent experience in handling
and analysing corresponding large experimental datasets is essential. The work
will require regular travel to field work at Stiffkey salt marsh on the North
coast of Norfolk (England) and for interactions with project partners in Norwich
and Oxford.
