Research Assistant or Research Fellow

£23,566 - £26,523 pa or £27,319 - £35,646 pa

Fixed Term Contract for 18 months

An EPSRC funded position is available working in the areas of synthetic and
formulation chemistry in the research group of Dr Andrew P. Dove within the
Materials Cluster. The project is focused on the synthesis of novel
photoinitiated polymeric resins for the rapid manufacture of 3D-tissue
engineering scaffolds. The project will cover the full range of the project from
macromonomer synthesis, through to application of formulated resins in
microstereolithography.

You will possess excellent synthetic abilities and a combination of good organic
and polymer synthesis skills with a proven ability to adapt to new
techniques/challenges and into new areas beyond core chemistry. As a consequence
of the interdisciplinary nature of the project, good interpersonal/transferable
skills are essential. Experience in one or several of the following subjects
will be beneficial: (i) polymer/organic synthesis and characterisation, (ii)
photo-initiated controlled/free radical polymerization, (iii) stereolithography,
(iv) formulation chemistry. In addition to a high level of practical skills you
will be expected to be able to operate and maintain equipment relevant to your
work.

You should have completed, or expect to complete shortly, a PhD in a relevant
field and demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
The position should start as soon as possible after 1 October  2010.
